Did a wrong decision in 1952 put America on the wrong side in 1979 . . .

The whole theme behind my posts and commentary leading up to the Wednesday, February 23rd 49th Parallel Forum show “Were the wheels for 9/11 put in motion back in 1952?,” can best be summed up in two words: Unintended Consequences!

The fact is that in 1952 under the code name Operation Ajax and, at the prompting of Winston Churchill and what became the British Petroleum Company, America chose it’s Foreign Policy interests over its moral values as a beacon of liberty in the world, and in the process unintentionally set into motion the chain of events that ultimately placed it on the wrong side of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

By overthrowing the immensely popular and democratically elected government of Mohammed Mossadegh, America sided with an easily controlled, despot dictator in the Shah of Iran, whose private police SAVAK terrorized anyone who dared to speak out against the inequity of his corrupt regime.

This in turn opened the door to the 1979 revolution that brought the Ayatollah Khomeini to power and lit the explosive wick of extremism that led to the rise in terrorism and eventually 9/11.

The basic premise behind this chain of seemingly time desperate events is pretty clear . . .  had the  democratically elected government of Mossadegh been allowed to grow and flourish, it is very unlikely that Khomeini would have ever come to power, and thus become an important catalyst for the growth of terrorism in the world today.

With pro-democratic protests igniting throughout the Arab world, America is now faced with another fork in the proverbial road in which it will once again have to choose between its constitutional values and the self-serving interests of a conflicted foreign policy.

Join us on Wednesday at 7:00 PM EST as my co-host from the south Jim Bouchard and I discuss America’s next move in the highly explosive Mideast region within the context of both past and present day events.

Also note that joining us for the second half of this 60 minute program will be Andy Sullivan, whose 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge movement is protesting the building of the Ground Zero Mosque based on issues of respect , sensitivity, transparency and responsibility.

Andy Sullivan

But here’s the thing . . . is the Unintended Consequence of the well-intentioned and understandable 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge advocacy empowering the extremist elements of the Arab world by alienating the majority of peaceful, law-abiding Muslims in similar fashion to the way that Operation Ajax did in 1952?

This as well as other probing questions should make the second segment of Wednesday’s program intense and telling.
