Government Contracting and Social Media: Strange Bedfellows?

On May 20th, 2008 mySBX, Inc., announced that it had launched, a first of its kind destination portal to help Government contractors connect, collaborate and share opportunities to drive businesses growth.

Built specifically to meet the varied demands and needs of small government contractors, is a destination portal that will enable users to grow their businesses, find new opportunities and access content built specifically for government contractors.

Enabled by this innovative collaborative platform, government contractors are able to partner, share information, exchange billable opportunities and access valuable insight into best-of-breed vendors and services.

Not that long ago, we aired a two-part series on Virginia’s JLARC Review of the Commonwealth’s eVA initiative.

While there were certainly areas in which improvements can and will likely be made, generally speaking Virginia’s eVA is as I have always said, a model that other governments should follow when structuring their own procurement policies and initiatives. Especially since 85 percent of all public sector programs fail to achieve the expected results usually costing taxpayers 10s and sometimes 100s of millions of dollars.

So when I read the above press release from Reston, Virginia-based, I knew I had to learn more about this social media platform. A platform which according to co-founder Jeff White, will change the way we all work forever by bringing together innovative technologies, workplace trend analysis, and an ability to leverage relational networks.

Joining me on the October 1st PI Window on Business broadcast is Jeff White, who will expand on the unique elements of the mySBX model and explain how more than a year after its launch is doing in terms of leaving its indelible imprint on public sector contracting.

Jeff was also Business Development Manager at Orbcomm, a leading a satellite communications business targeting the heavy equipment industry with integrated Internet, and web-enabled tracking and monitoring solutions.
